Stem Education – A Complete Guide To Know About This Learning System
Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics form the crux of the modern 21st century. The idea of educating students in these four disciplines is termed as STEM. The education is provided with an inter-disciplinary approach that integrates all of these four subjects. STEM aims to provide a holistic view of the real world applications of these subjects.
These subjects were once the favorite choice among students. However recently, research shows that fewer students are opting for these courses. Hence, the need arises to change the education of these subjects according to the modern times. This is a revolutionary approach to education which tends to integrate essential components of the modern society into one subject. There are many stem learning systems that have paved the way in this field.
The “Educate to Innovate” campaign started by the Obama administration gives us a proof the impact this education can have on our society. This aims to bring out the brightest minds in the field of science and mathematics to the pinnacle of world success. It also aims to fill the gap in our modern education system. We are well aware of the vacancies among the teachers for these subjects.
A committee on stem education named as CoSTEM has been formed by the department of education to address such issues. There are thirteen member agencies of this system who aim to bring STEM education into the system. A separate federal fund will be awarded to this very system, who will plan to invest that money in research, development and implementation of the stem systems within our country.
One important thing to note is that though the STEM expands to Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics, its scope is not just limited to it. It also involves various other related subjects such as Astronomy, Astrophysics, Aerospace Science, Biotechnology, Biophysics, Biomechanics, Computer science, civil engineering, physics, nuclear physics, neurobiology, robotics, and several other subjects.
It aims to create an environment where all the disciplines integrate together to form a modern education system. The stem education curriculum will also be designed by CoSTEM to cater to the modern needs.
Tomorrow’s leaders are the bright young minds who are in junior school, today. Providing them an education that will help them have an edge over others is a necessity that needs to be full filled. The world is more connected than ever, and the competition has also become stiff with time. Therefore, there is an urgent need to change the modern education system so that our children may always remain at the top of the ladder everywhere in the world.
Many institutions in America have already taken several initiatives. 100Kin10 initiative taken by the Carnegie Corporation of New York aims to aims to prepare 100,000 STEM teachers within the next 10 years. Many education institutes like the Northeastern University have also offered STEM related scholarships to encourage the young minds to opt for this course. Several online education programs like Paxton Patterson have also started offering these courses to young minds.
